Design & History
The London Eye is a true marvel of engineering and design, symbolizing innovation and creativity. Designed by Marks Barfield Architects, the observation wheel was initially conceived to celebrate the new millennium.
Each component of the London Eye was meticulously crafted, with the majority of its parts prefabricated and assembled on-site. The structure relies on tensioned cables, much like a giant bicycle wheel.
Construction of the London Eye began in 1998, with over 1,700 tons of steel and 3,000 tons of concrete used in its foundation and framework. It was officially opened to the public in March 2000.
Standing at a height of 135 meters, the London Eye was the world's tallest observation wheel when it opened. Its design allows for a smooth and stable ride, offering unparalleled views of London.
Over the years, the London Eye has become a cultural icon and a must-visit attraction for tourists from around the globe. It remains a testament to modern architectural ingenuity.
